KGF Chapter 2 Movie Review

Kangana Ranaut: Despite controversies, she is the box office queen

After 'Judgmental Hai Kya', Kangana's film earned more than its cost even after being boycotted

Bollywood's Dhaakad actress Kangana Ranaut's films have been making a splash at the box office for years. Kangana is the first and only actress in the film industry who, despite being hated by the industry, has remained adamant here for years. Kangana, who constantly scolds A-listers, filmmakers and the industry, is surrounded by controversies before every film, but it is rarely seen when these controversies have an effect on her films. Let us know how Kangana's films have performed during the controversies-

Life in a metro

The first controversy related to Kangana Ranaut was her case against Aditya Pancholi. In 2007, Kangana filed a case against Aditya for raising her hand while intoxicated. After the matter came to light, Aditya confirmed his relationship with Kangana Ranaut and told that Kangana has borrowed Rs 25 lakh from him. This controversy went on for a long time, during which Kangana's film Life in a Metro was released. The film had a box office collection of 22 crores, which was the 26th highest grossing film of that year.

Fashion

Aditya was followed by Kangana and Raj: The Mystery Continues co-star Adhyayan Suman. Both had a breakup in the year 2008, after which both of them were making many objectionable statements on each other. In the same year, Kangana's two films Fashion and Dham-Dhoom were released. Out of these, fashion made under the direction of Madhur Bhandarkar became a hit by earning 60 crores but Dham-Dhoom was average.

Rangoon

In the year 2016, Kangana Ranaut's ex-boyfriend Hrithik Roshan filed a case of cyber stalking and harassment against her. In return, Kangana did a counter case against him. In many public events and interviews, Kangana made objectionable statements against Hrithik and people associated with the industry. At this time in 2017 Kangana's film Rangoon was released. Made in a budget of 80 crores, this film collected only 41 crores. Apart from Kangana's controversy, the bad story was also a big reason for its flop.

Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi

Kangana Ranaut's film Manikarnika was in controversy due to many reasons. Many people demanded to stop its release for showing wrong facts in the film. At the same time, the making of this film was also in controversy. After the rift with Kangana, director Krish left the shooting of the film incomplete, due to which Kangana directed the rest of the film. Actor Sonu Sood left the film after being upset with Kangana's attitude. Many scenes were reshot and the budget of the film increased. When the film released, it got a cold response due to controversies. Despite earning 116 crores more than the budget, this film was a flop.

Thalaivi

During the promotional event of the film Judgmental Hai Kya released in 2019, Kangana had a heated argument with a reporter. This debate increased so much that the media refused to publish the news related to her by boycotting the actress. Deepika's NGO also objected to the portrayal of mentally challenged people in a wrong way. The title of the film was changed. Despite this big boycott, Kangana's film had collected 44.92 crores more than the budget of 35 crores.

After the death of Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020, Kangana waged a war against many big stars. He made a lot of headlines by making serious allegations against many big personalities including Salman Khan, Mahesh Bhatt, Uddhav Thackeray. Kangana's office was vandalized by BMC. Just a year later, Kangana's film Thalaivi was released. Kangana got headlines from controversies but her film could not benefit from it. The film was liked by the critics but it was lagging behind in terms of earnings. The film made in 100 crores earned only 4.5 crores. Corona also had a big hand behind the film's flop.
